Sports Betting Week: Spieth Heavily Favored at Open Championship

Jordan Spieth will be looking to capture his third straight major tournament win and possibly grab top spot in the World Golf Rankings when he tees off on Thursday at the Open Championship as a 5/1 favorite in golf betting at sportsbooks monitored by

Spieth earned his fourth tournament win of the year last weekend, outlasting Tom Gillis in a playoff and picking up his second career victory at the John Deere Classic.

The 21-year-old has been simply spectacular in his two major victories this season, at the Masters and the US Open, but faces his biggest challenge yet at The Open Championship where he has failed to finish better than 36th place in two previous appearances.

With the defending champion, and the world's top-ranked golfer, Rory McIlroy unable to defend his title due to a recent ankle injury, the field will be wide open when The Open Championship gets underway on Thursday, with action taking place on the Old Course at St. Andrews for the 29th time in the tourney's history.

US Open runner-up Dustin Johnson trails Spieth with 11/1 odds, followed by Rickie Fowler, who will be looking to bounce back from a rough weekend at last month's US Open and is pegged at 16/1 odds.

Justin Rose rounds out the front of the pack in Open Championship betting at 18/1, while three-time winner Tiger Woods will look to rekindle past glory as a 25/1 bet, and leftie Phil Mickelson will be gunning for his second Open victory in three years, sporting 33/1 odds.

In other sports betting action this week, baseball's best come together at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Tuesday night for the 86th MLB All-Star Game.

The National League will be looking to halt a two-game losing streak and pick up just their second home win in the past 20 years when they take the field as -122 moneyline favorites on the All-Star Game betting lines at the sportsbooks.

The American League has dominated the Mid-Summer Classic in recent years, going 14-3-1 in the past 18 All-Star clashes, and enters Tuesday's contest as the underdogs.
